West Ham United ace Gianluca Scamacca is in Italy, Roma make him top transfer target

Roma have made Gianluca Scamacca their top transfer target with the West Ham forward is currently in Italy, according to Il Tempo.

In its print edition on 23 July, the Italian newspaper reported on page 26 that the 24-year-old had returned to being the Serie A giants’ primary target as Jose Mourinho looks to bring in a striker to replace the injured Tammy Abraham.

While Il Tempo said the Italy international has returned to the country to undergo “medical checks”, it added that he hasn’t had any meetings with Roma as the club continues to try and convince the Hammers to lower their asking price for the player.

No one’s budging

This is a story that just continues to rumble on as neither side are willing to give an inch on what they value the player at.

It could look slightly suspicious that Scamacca is currently in Italy, but as the report from Il Tempo reveals, he is only there to complete some medical checks, even if he has made it clear in recent weeks that he would be open to making the switch.

It’s no real surprise to see that Roma have once again made him their top target this summer, with the Serie A side desperate to bring in a new forward and because they appear to have failed in their bid to sign Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid.

The Hammers do seem keen to keep hold of Scamacca, though, so they need to hold firm until they either get a suitable replacement in or their valuation of the player is met, with the club looking to recoup a large chunk of the £35.5m they paid Sassuolo for him last year.

There’s likely to be plenty more twists and turns in this one until Roma come forward with a serious offer or the West Ham hierarchy makes it clear that he is our player and he’s going nowhere.

In other West Ham news, an England international has been told to reject Saudi interest in favour of a move to the Hammers.
