D-Day sheduled as West Ham United in talks to sign Real Madrid sensation Raul Asencio
West Ham have spoken with the representatives of Real Madrid youngster Raul Asencio as they look to strike a summer deal, according to the Sunday People.
The newspaper reports via their print edition [page 57, 30 April] that Leeds are also in hot pursuit of the 20-year-old defender, who plays in Real Madrid’s third team in the Spanish fifth tier.
It is understood that he’s a “highly-rated” young player but the fact he’s so far down the pecking order at the Bernabeu means that the door is open for him to leave this summer.

However, the Sunday People report that if Asencio does leave the Bernabeu for good, Real Madrid are ready to consider a sale with a buy-back clause included in a deal.
A decision will be made at the end of May, it is reported.
Not a first-team signing
If Moyes wants to add to his defensive unit this summer then signing a 20-year-old from the fifth tier of Spanish football isn’t the way to go about it.
Asencio would at least be in the B team if he’s any good but even at the age of 20, playing at what is the equivalent of English non-league football at that age isn’t great.

Asencio will probably still be able to develop, which makes us think that he’d be a better signing for the Under-21s and then either play in Premier League 2 for a bit or go out on loan in the EFL.
The Spanish centre-back, who was born in Gran Canaria, is not someone who Moyes should be counting on to improve his team instantly.
But, either way, Moyes might not even be in charge of us when the summer transfer window opens so what’s the point in looking to deeply into transfer targets right now?
