West Ham trialist Roco Rees desperate for Irons move, decision expected within days

West Ham are mulling over a contract offer to 19-year-old English goalkeeper Roco Rees, according to Irons insider ExWHUemployee.

Speaking on The West Ham Way podcast [19/07/21], he has claimed that the former Brighton Under-23 could be handed a permanent deal at the London Stadium.

“The other goalkeeper that was a trialist is a guy called Roco Rees,” he said.

“He’s formerly of Brighton, he’s actually a West Ham fan, he’s desperate to sign. They reckon he’ll have an answer in the next couple of days as to whether he will be taken on or not.

“It could be both of them, but it’s probably between him and [ex-Rangers goalkeeper] Brian Kinnear. Rees is definitely very interested in the move.”

One of our own?

Rees is unlikely to be a name many Irons supporters have heard of, but it’s always an encouraging sign when a player is a West Ham fan and desperate to move to the club.

It’s something that seems to be in short supply these days – those young talents that aren’t dazzled by the giants of Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea and support West Ham, tend to get whisked away by one of them when they emerge on the scene as professional players.

As such, it’s rare to find a player like that at the club – we have a few like Mark Noble and David Martin, but they’re coming towards the end of their careers.

So this is likely to be a popular move if it does happen, though it would seem likely that Rees is thrust straight into the Under-23s set up with competition fierce in the senior goalkeeping department.

In other West Ham news, the club have approached this EUROs semi-finalist, he’s prepared to reject a Premier League rival for the Irons.
