West Ham transfers: Update emerges on new striker signing
Roshane Thomas believes that West Ham striker Niclas Fullkrug’s injury goes to show why the club are looking for a number nine in January.
The Athletic journalist saw the Germany international pick up a hamstring injury as the Hammers lost 2-1 to Aston Villa on 10 January in the FA Cup.
Fullkrug started the game but got injured in the first half and could not play the rest of the game.
Via X, Thomas wrote: “Fullkrug pulls up with a hamstring injury and signals to the bench he needs to come off. Such a shame because his recent performances have been encouraging. But given Fullkrug’s track record with injury, it goes to show why West Ham want to sign a forward this window.”
West Ham need to intensify their pursuit of a new striker
Michail Antonio will not return to first-team football this season after his horrific accident, leaving the club a striker short.
Now, Fullkrug’s injury adds to the Hammers’ woes, further reducing Graham Potter’s options in attack.
It’s still unclear as to how serious the injury is and how long it will keep the German out of action.
Jarrod Bowen is also injured and goals are certainly going to be tough to get with so many players unavailable.
Thus, the onus is on Tim Steidten and co to work overtime to ensure that a striker is brought to the club sooner rather than later.
Hopefully, progress is already being made with regard to certain deals and they are completed in the coming days.
While there is time left for the window to shut, leaving things until the last minute is seldom a good choice.
In other West Ham news, sources claim the Hammers can now secure the services of a £40m player in January.
