West Ham transfers: Fabrizio Romano issues groundbreaking Brian Brobbey update

Tottenham have now stepped out of the race to sign West Ham target Brian Brobbey from Ajax, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer guru claimed on 24 January that Spurs are not expected to proceed with a formal bid for the Dutch striker.

The Hammers, on the other hand, are keen on doing a deal, but Ajax want an obligation to buy included.

Via X, Romano wrote: “Tottenham are not expected to proceed with any bid or formal contact for Brian Brobbey after asking for deal conditions.

“West Ham remain in contact and keen on getting it done but Ajax want obligation to buy included.”

West Ham appear frontrunners to sign Brian Brobbey

It’s understood that the 22-year-old has already been spotted in London so things appear to be escalating pretty quickly. [Telegraaf, 24 January]

Had it merely been contact, he would not have flown all the way to the English capital.

While it could be purely coincidental, it does not seem to be the case given that we’ve approached the business end of the transfer window.

To add to that, he is being linked with two London clubs and the Hammers will be delighted that Spurs have pulled the plug on this deal.

They can offer European football and perhaps bigger wages than the London Stadium outfit and that might have played a factor in Brobbey’s decision-making.

It remains to be seen if the Irons can now succeed in getting this deal over the line sooner rather than later.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have made contact to sign an international striker who’s scored 15 goals in 18 games this season.
