West Ham transfers: £20m update emerges at London Stadium in Dan Neil signing

West Ham United have placed Dan Neil on their shortlist ahead of the summer transfer window.

Graham Potter made the loan signing of Evan Ferguson from Brighton his only acquisition in the winter transfer window after replacing Julen Lopetegui as West Ham’s head coach.

However, the English tactician will want more signings in what will be his first summer transfer window as the Irons boss, with eight first-team players running out of their contracts at the end of the season.

The midfield is expected to be an area that needs addressing, with Carlos Soler tipped to return to Paris Saint-Germain, and Lucas Paqueta and Guido Rodriguez facing uncertain futures at the London Stadium.

West Ham approach for Neil revealed

Neil is one player West Ham could rope in to bolster their options in midfield, as they were already linked with a move for him in the winter transfer window.

According to TEAMtalk, West Ham made an approach to sign the 23-year-old from Sunderland in January, along with Everton.

While the Black Cats were not willing to listen to offers for Neil at that point, the East London outfit could rekindle their interest in him at the end of the season.

Neil has been an integral part of Sunderland’s push for promotion this season, bagging two goals and three assists in 39 league appearances.

With the Tyne and Wear outfit sitting fourth in the Championship, his future could depend on whether or not they earn promotion to the Premier League.

Neil’s existing contract with Sunderland runs out at the end of next season, but the Black Cats are hopeful of tying him down to a new deal.

Furthermore, the midfielder is valued at £20million, which is deemed as too high as things stand.

Irons face competition from Everton for Neil

West Ham are not the only club interested in Neil, as Everton are also prepared to return to the negotiating table for him.

AS Roma, who are also run by Everton owners The Friedkin Group, are in the mix for the Sunderland captain as well.

All three clubs will continue to keep tabs on Neil as they look to see if Sunderland earn their way back into the Premier League.

Should that not be the case, they could look to negotiate a smaller fee with the Black Cats.
