West Ham United could get Scott McTominay boost after Manchester United transfer news

West Ham could be boosted in their pursuit of Scott McTominay should Sofyan Amrabat join Manchester United, according to the Evening Standard.

McTominay has been repeatedly linked with a move to the London Stadium throughout the transfer window, with the Hammers having previously had a £30million offer rejected [The Athletic].

Despite Mason Mount sustaining an injury, fellow Man United midfielder McTominay may be allowed to depart Old Trafford if Amrabat joins from Fiorentina.

Marc Mayo reported for the Evening Standard on Thursday [24 August]: “Scott McTominay’s future could be intertwined with Mount’s lay-off amid interest from West Ham, however Amrabat’s arrival could push the Scot towards the exit door.”

A deal worth exploring

Amrabat was left out of Fiorentina’s squad for their Europa Conference League play-off first-leg tie with Rapid Vienna on Thursday [24 August], so a move to United does look like a realistic possibility at this point.

West Ham will no doubt have a close eye on developments given they have made their interest in McTominay quite clear this summer.

However, having brought in Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse from Ajax and Southampton respectively for a combined £65m since their initial offer for McTominay was rejected, it may well be that the Hammers’ interest has cooled somewhat.

David Moyes’ focus right now, having also strengthened at centre-back with the signing of Konstantinos Mavropanos this week, is on bringing in an attacker or two, with Mohammed Kudus and Youssef En-Nesyri notable targets.

Should Man United indeed indicate that McTominay is available for a reasonable price, though, it is certainly a deal worth exploring for West Ham.

In other West Ham news, Anton Ferdinand was left particularly impressed by one player in last weekend’s win against Chelsea.
