Liverpool to resist offers for West Ham target Joe Gomez

Liverpool will resist any offers from West Ham for defender Joe Gomez, according to Neil Jones.

The Goal journalist reported on his Substack page on Tuesday [29 August] that Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad have also been showing an interest in Gomez.

However, Liverpool are not looking to sell the 26-year-old in the final few days of the summer transfer window.

Jones said that, while Gomez is keen to play more regularly, “Liverpool are likely to resist any offers which may emerge before Friday’s transfer deadline”.

He added: “It feels unlikely that the Reds would sell unless a significant signing was to be made.”

Makes sense

The Mirror reported on its live transfer feed on Monday [28 August, 09:46pm] that West Ham were eyeing a last-ditch move for Gomez.

United have already signed Konstantinos Mavropanos this window, but David Moyes is seemingly still interested in signing another centre-back.

Gomez also has the ability to play at right-back and left-back, with those being areas Moyes could certainly do with strengthening.

West Ham

It is a move that does make sense on the face of it, then, and it would do Gomez the world of good to get away from Anfield and play more regularly.

But Liverpool do not look as though they will entertain any offers for the Englishman, although that stance may change if Al Ittihad make a silly offer. Money speaks, after all.

There is no chance of West Ham doing so, however, meaning Gomez is a target the Hammers must quickly forget about.

In other West Ham news, Dean Saunders was stunned by something he saw in the Hammers’ win at Brighton and Hove Albion.
