West Ham transfer news: Fotis Ioannidis deal on cards amid Celtic interest

West Ham want to sign Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis in a £12.8million deal amid interest from Celtic, Sevilla and several others, according to Calciomercato.

The Italian news outlet reported on 4 April that the striker’s contract runs until 2027 after he recently opted to renew his deal rather than leave for free, but is now ready to take a “big leap”.

Eintracht Frankfurt, Bologna and Stuttgart were other European clubs credited with an interest in the striker who has scored 21 goals and provided seven assists this season.

With 21 goals, Ioannidis has certainly shown he knows where the back of the net is, and he could provide a fresh option should the Hammers look to bring in a more reliable goalscorer to help boost their attacking strength.

Neither Danny Ings nor Michail Antonio can be relied upon for a full season, while Jarrod Bowen isn’t an out-and-out striker and Divin Mubama has plenty of room to grow, so bringing in a first-choice option should be the priority at the London Stadium.

With links to the likes of Victor Boniface and Ivan Toney also emerging in recent weeks, it appears the Hammers have no shortage of funds to spend on a big-name striker, with Ioannidis providing a cheaper and more far-flung alternative.

Meanwhile, Frank McAvennie insisted the Hammers will not need to sign a new striker given the form of both Ings and Antonio, with Bowen also able to play the position while Mubama is coming through the academy.

This is definitely one to watch.
