West Ham transfer news as Florian Plettenberg shares Kalvin Phillips medical update

Kalvin Phillips is set to have his West Ham medical on Thursday ahead of his loan from Manchester City, according to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

Plettenberg said the England midfielder will move to the London Stadium on a six-month loan deal after City and West Ham reached an agreement on a loan fee and wages.

The former Leeds United man, 28, is flying back from Abu Dhabi to put the final touches on the deal and Plettenberg said medical checks will happen on Thursday.

“News Kalvin Phillips: DONE DEAL! Total agreement between the clubs has been reached now,” Plettenberg wrote on X (23 January).

“Phillips will join West Ham! Medical on Thursday.”

What a coup

Wow, this is just absolutely wonderful news for West Ham, manager David Moyes, and Hammers supporters.

Phillips may have struggled to impose himself at the Etihad Stadium but he is an England international and on his day is an absolutely brilliant footballer.

The structure of the deal appears to suit all parties with the Hammers taking on an excellent player for six months and having the opportunity to make the move permanent come the end of the season.

Phillips himself should get plent more first-team football ahead of Euro 2024 where, barring any injury woes, he looks a shoo-in for Gareth Southgate’s squad given he was being selected even when out of the team at City.

This feels an excellent piece of business for the Irons, who will now surely look to reinforce their striker options to reall have a go at finishing as high as possible in the Premier League this season.

In other West Ham news, David Ornstein has shared a wages update on Phillips.
