West Ham transfer news as ‘crisis’ update emerges around permanent Kalvin Phillips switch

West Ham United are expected to sign Kalvin Phillips on a permanent deal this summer, despite his “crisis” of a start to his loan spell at the London Stadium, according to Dean Jones.

The Manchester City loanee has struggled since making the temporary switch to David Moyes’ side during the January transfer window, starting only one of the Hammers’ three games in February, when he gifted Bournemouth a goal on his debut.

Phillips’ slow start led to suggestions that the Irons had already ruled out a permanent switch in the summer, but Sportlens journalist Jones still expects Moyes to push for a permanent move at the end of the season if he signs a new deal with the Hammers.

As quoted by Give Me Sport (15 February) he said: “I think it’s important to remember that David Moyes drove the transfer of Kalvin Phillips.

“David Moyes is now seemingly on the verge of signing a new contract at West Ham, and he will probably want Kalvin Phillips to be a longer-term part of the picture at West Ham instead of just being there until the end of the season.

“It has been a crisis start for Kalvin Phillips since his loan move, but I’m expecting him to turn things around at West Ham and actually end up staying there longer-term.”

Will West Ham sign Kalvin Phillips permanently?

Nobody in the footballing world has been impressed by Phillips’ start to life at the London Stadium. The England international has looked miles off of the pace whenever he has stepped foot on the pitch and has struggled to positively impact the Hammers.

But Moyes has always insisted that it was going to take time for the City loanee to get up to speed, especially considering how little football he has played so far this season, managing only 220 minutes of Premier League action.

David Moyes has found himself under increasing pressure at West Ham United.

If the 28-year-old shows signs of improvement before the end of the campaign, it could make sense for West Ham to consider a permanent move, otherwise, they will have spent months improving Phillips for someone else’s gain.

However, it may not be up to Moyes whether or not the Irons complete a permanent deal, as the Scotsman appears to be fighting for his job at the London Stadium currently.
