West Ham transfer: Fikayo Tomori return ready in January

West Ham want to bring Fikayo Tomori back to the Premier League this month, according to talkSPORT.

The radio station reported on X on 2 January that the Hammers, Tottenham, Newcastle and Brentford are all vying to sign the AC Milan defender after “recent struggles” in Serie A.

The 27-year-old has made just nine league appearances for the Rossoneri this term, totalling 13 minutes in their last 10, and this has alerted the Premier League quartet over his potential transfer availability.

Julen Lopetegui’s Irons have already shipped 35 goals this term – the fourth-worst of any side in the Premier League.

Fikayo Tomori transfer not straightforward for West Ham

Interest from three other top-flight sides in Tomori will only help to ramp up the England international’s potential price tag this month, complicating any approach made for him by the Hammers.

Lopetegui’s side, having gone on a four-match unbeaten run, were brought crashing back down to earth by Liverpool last time out, being thumped 5-0 at home despite starting the game with a back five.

So far in the Spaniard’s tenure, only Max Kilman has been able to consistently keep his place in central defence, with fellow new arrival Jean-Clair Todibo or Konstantinos Mavropanos usually partnering him.

Although the Hammers plan to make Todibo’s loan from Nice permanent next summer [Sean Whetstone, 11 August], it appears a summer’s worth of defensive reinforcements haven’t been enough to stem the flow of goals.

This could all change if Lopetegui were to be shown the door, but with January upon them, it remains to be seen how much wiggle room the Irons will have to strengthen a squad which still looks very limited.
