West Ham top January transfer target named as Evan Ferguson approach made

West Ham United are “big admirers” of Evan Ferguson as they eye the signing of a new striker in the January transfer window, according to TEAMtalk.

The outlet reported via their website on Monday (16 December) that the Irons have identified the Ireland international as a “top target” ahead of January following Michail Antonio’s road traffic accident.

They have already approached Ferguson’s agents over a transfer, with Brighton already making him available for loan.

Leicester have also been credited with an interest in the 20-year-old, but face stiff competition from Julen Lopetegui’s side.

West Ham eye Evan Ferguson swoop in January

The number nine position has emerged as an area of concern for the East London outfit.

All three of West Ham’s senior strikers – Antonio, Niclas Fullkrug and Danny Ings – are in their 30s, meaning they lack young blook in that area.

Antonio’s unfortunate setback and Fullkrug’s fitness concerns have only made things worse for the Hammers.

This is why Tim Steidten has turned his attention towards signing a new striker in January as Lopetegui looks to steer his team away from the relegation zone.

Ferguson is an attractive target for West Ham, considering his age, potential and Premier League experience.

There have been suggestions that Steidten prefers Mainz hitman Jonathan Burkardt over the Irishman [TBR Football], but a swoop for the Brighton youngster appears to be still on the cards.

With the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta playing behind him, there is no doubt that Ferguson can become a major goal threat for the Irons.

In other West Ham news, this Lopetegui regular is unhappy at the London Stadium and an exit could be on the cards.
