West Ham to test Sunderland resolve as Dan Neil transfer stance emerges
West Ham are ready to test Sunderland’s resolve for Dan Neil even though they had little intention of selling him this transfer window, according to the Daily Mirror.
It was reported by talkSPORT correspondent Alex Crook (X 23 January) that the Hammers are in the hunt for the 23-year-old midfielder.
The Mirror reported in their print edition (24 January, page 56) that the Hammers and Premier League rivals Everton are indeed interested in a move, though Sunderland are unlikely to let him leave this month as they hunt promotion from the Championship.
However, they add that the Irons are ready to test that stance before the 3 February deadline.
West Ham in for Sunderland ace Dan Neil
Neil, described as a “real leader” by teammate Patrick Roberts this month (BBC Radio Newcastle), is certainly an interesting proposition should the Hammers wish to pursue this one.
Sunderland have built a team brimming with young, athletic talent, which is why they are performing so high in the Championship this season and why so many of their players are on the radar of top-flight clubs.

Whether or not they could be convinced to let Neil depart remains to be seen and you do assume that it would take quite a hefty offer to bring them to the table and do business.
And that is where the sticking point comes, because after a hefty outlay in the summer you sense that the Hammers are going to have to box clever as they look to strengthen the squad for Graham Potter.
So, it may be a non-starter for the winter window but long term it feels like this might be one to watch.
