West Ham could make a bid for Corinthians star Yuri Alberto before the January transfer window opens, according to Trivela.

The Brazilian outlet reported on 19 November that the 23-year-old would command a fee of at least £20.8million with the Hammers interested in his signature.

Julen Lopetegui's side reportedly face competition from Southampton and Nottingham Forest with a proposal mooted ahead of the winter window opening.

The striker is unlikely to remain in the Brazilian Serie A for the season given that he has already publicly admitted his interest in playing in the Premier League.

The Hammers have had a problem in the striker role this campaign despite signing Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund over the summer.

The Germany international has had a lengthy injury concern to deal with which has seen him feature in just 63 minutes of Premier League action so far.

This has seen Danny Ings and Michail Antonio be utilised by Lopetegui but the pair have scored just two goals between them.

If either of these are to leave the club in the near future then a move for Alberto could make sense given his record for Corinthians.

The ex-Zenit man has scored 11 goals and provided four assists across 26 appearances in the Serie A this season despite facing competition for his role from Memphis Depay.

This signing would certainly represent a risk after the struggles of Luis Guilherme since joining the Hammers in the latest transfer window.

At £20.8m a deal for the striker could be a risk but with the current state of the number nine position in East London, it could be worth taking a chance.
