West Ham to hold ‘new negotiations’ to sign Andre Silva
West Ham United will hold “new negotiations” with RB Leipzig today to sign Andre Silva on loan, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Germany journalist reported via his personal X account (24 January) that the Portugal international is now “high” on the Hammers’ shortlist despite reported ongoing talks with Brian Brobbey.
The report also adds that an agreement is being sought to “finalise” the deal to bring the RB Leipzig attacker to the London Stadium.
On Thursday, Sky Germany reported that the Hammers were in advanced negotiations for the striker and it looks as though a new round of talks will now take place.
“New negotiations between West Ham and Andre Silva are taking place today. An agreement is being sought to finalize the deal,” Plettenberg wrote.
“After numerous rejections and failed offers (e.g., Jhon Duran), Silva is now high on their list. Advanced talks with Silva underway, as reported yesterday. No agreement with Leipzig yet.
“But: West Ham United remain in contact with Brian Brobbey as excl. revealed yesterday. But NO agreements yet.”
West Ham United could be making a mistake with the transfer of Andre Silva
While the Hammers are in dire need of a new number nine, it feels unlikely that Silva is the right man for the job, even if it is just for six months.
In the few games that Niclas Fullkrug has played for West Ham it’s evident that his lack of speed and athleticism are going to hinder how well he does in the Premier League.
England’s top flight is about moving the ball on quickly and creating chances out of nothing which doesn’t really align with the playstyle that the Portugal international employs.

The RB Leipzig number nine is more of a poacher and while he may be physically strong, he’s unlikely to be able to make it past a fair few of the Premier League’s defenders due to the sheer pace they possess.
It feels like Graham Potter could be falling into the same trap Julen Lopetegui did of trying to fit a square peg in a round hole with the singing of Silva in the winter window.
