West Ham to confirm Andriy Yarmolenko exit once Breel Embolo signing completed

Andriy Yarmolenko will seal his transfer to Fenerbahce once West Ham complete the signing of 24-year-old Breel Embolo, according to Fanatik.

Writing on their verified Twitter account on Saturday morning [17/07/21], the Turkish news outlet claims the 31-year-old Ukrainian winger is nearing an Irons exit this summer, with Borussia Monchengladbach forward Embolo set to come the other way.

They wrote: “West Ham are set to bolster their attacking line with Breel Embolo. Andriy Yarmolenko is expected to be confirmed when Embolo’s transfer is complete. Thus, Fenerbahce will have taken an important step towards signing the Ukrainian player.”

Embolo made a big impression at Euro 2020, finally registering his first goal in a major international tournament in Switzerland’s group opener versus Wales on June 12.

He kept his place in the starting XI for the next four games, including the memorable round of 16 penalty shoot-out victory over favourites France.

The last of those games, however, saw his tournament end in heartbreak as he was taken off injured after just 23 minutes in the quarter-final against Spain, before the Swiss bowed out on penalties.

He showed his versatility at Euro 2020, playing either as a central striker or just behind a lone frontman, moving to the wider positions to use his “pace” and “power” [Independent].

Similarly, Yarmolenko also enjoyed a fruitful tournament with his own nation as Ukraine made it to the same stage before succumbing to England, losing 4-0.

Yarmolenko scored twice at Euro 2020, including a spectacular effort against the Netherlands.

But he’s never quite hit the heights at club level since joining under Manuel Pellegrini in 2018, and Embolo would be an upgrade in that department, offering cover for the wing positions as well as challenging Michail Antonio at striker.
