‘West Ham to agree another sale before Fofana transfer’ as approach made

West Ham could be forced to agree to another sale before completing a new signing.

The Hammers are yet to make any moves in the summer market despite a difficult end to the season under Graham Potter.

This has come as a surprise to many, with frustration beginning to take hold among the London Stadium faithful.

There may be a reason for this, with a move for Yahia Fofana potentially on ice until further departures are confirmed from East London.

West Ham in running for Fofana signing

It is fair to say that the Irons need to move quickly in the window, especially now that Mohammed Kudus has confirmed a move to Tottenham.

This is likely to result in attacking signings for the claret and blue outfit, although it is clear that reinforcements are needed elsewhere.

One position that is certainly in need of improvement is goalkeeper, after Lukasz Fabianski departed E20 at the end of the season.

This has now seen L’Equipe report (10 July) that West Ham are in the race to sign Fofana from Angers on a free transfer.

The 24-year-old has already attracted interest from Ajax, who have inquired about his situation despite not being close to a conclusion over a deal.

No concrete offer has been made, something which has allowed the Irons to enter the running, but a deal won’t be possible until they part ways with more first-team players.

Fofana could represent new number one at West Ham

There is no doubt that Alphonse Areola had a difficult season last time around after becoming the undisputed number one.

It was clear that David Moyes trusted him to be number one, but eventually the Frenchman was dropped for Fabianski last campaign.

This could see Fofana come in as ideal competition after a largely positive campaign in Ligue 1 with Angers.

On a cheap deal this summer, the Ivory Coast international could prove to be a smart piece of recruitment by Potter and Kyle Macaulay.
