West Ham think they’ve had major boost in bid to sign Evan Ferguson

West Ham United believe that Victor Boniface staying at Bayer Leverkusen will “aid their pursuit” of signing Evan Ferguson, according to Alex Crook.

The talkSPORT journalist reported via his personal X account (30 January) that despite the Hammers receiving a boost in their pursuit there are still “lots of loan options” on the table for the Irishman.

The Hammers have been consistently linked with strikers since the window opened with the likes of Ricardo Pepi and Jhon Duran being linked with a London Stadium switch already.

West Ham United would be taking a risk with Evan Ferguson

While the Hammers’ need for a new number nine is rather evident, it feels like Ferguson might be a bit too much of a risk for Graham Potter to take on.

While the Englishman may have handed the striker his debut for the Seagulls during his time in charge, his injury history leaves a lot to be desired.

This season alone the Irishman has missed out a large chunk of the season due to injury which was one of the main reasons why clubs didn’t make a move for him at the start of the window.

In fact, even in the 14 games that he’s appeared in this season, he’s only managed to net one goal which, when the Hammers are looking for a prolific goalscorer, is far from ideal.

While the move could pull off and end up saving the Hammers’ season, it feels like there are better options out there than Ferguson who would be guaranteed to get the results desired.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers could be set to lose another senior behind-the-scenes figure after Tim Steidten.
