West Ham target Kalvin Phillips hopes to engineer summer move away from Elland Road, Leeds resigned to his departure

West Ham target Kalvin Phillips is hopeful of engineering a summer move away from Leeds United, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The England international is said to be switching agents in attempt to secure a move in the summer, with West Ham’s £50million January bid turned down, as reported by the Sun.

Phillips, 26, is contracted to Leeds until the summer of 2024 and there is hope in Yorkshire that he will stay at Elland Road beyond this season.

The club are asking for no less than £60million for his services and there is a belief that his injury record will deter potential suitors.

However, as reported by the Manchester Evening News there is an acceptance that Phillips will eventually leave the club and he’s changing agents this summer ahead of moving on.

Phillips at West Ham

West Ham bidding £50 million for Phillips in January was the ambition that Hammers fans want to see.

If David Moyes was able to tempt Phillips into joining the Irons then there would be a realistic chance of West Ham retaining Declan Rice’s services.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Declan Rice has recently turned down a third contract offer from the club.

If the Hammers wish to keep hold of their talismanic skipper they will need to show some ambition in the transfer window.

Bringing in Rice’s international central midfield partner to play alongside him would be a big statement of intent.

Although, the lateness of their January bid did raise a few eyebrows.

There was potential for it to be a PR stunt from their ownership in order to show the fans that they are ambitious, whilst fully well knowing any bid for Leeds’ best player on deadline day would be unsuccessful.

Signings such as Phillips are exactly the kind of statements West Ham need to be making and using this successful season as a platform to push onto the next level.
