West Ham target Joe Worrall wants Premier League switch
West Ham have approached Nottingham Forest with an enquiry about Joe Worrall as the defender seeks a summer move to a Premier League club, according to The Sun.
The newspaper claims Norwich have also enquired about the 24-year-old centre-back and Burnley are lining up a bid worth £10million as Sean Dyche looks to improve his defence.
It is understood Nottingham Forest may sell Worrall for the right price amid the top-flight interest in their long-serving player.
Strong back-up
West Ham are going to need a new centre-back in the summer transfer window with it looking as though Fabian Balbuena is leaving the London Stadium.
While David Moyes will still have Angelo Ogbonna, Craig Dawson, Issa Diop and Aaron Cresswell able to play in a central position in the defence, it wouldn’t hurt having that one extra body.
Worrall has a lot of experience in the Championship.
The 24-year-old, who’s spent his entire career at Nottingham Forest, has played 129 times in the second-tier while he’s also had loan experience of playing for Dagenham and Redbridge in League Two and Scottish Premiership side Rangers, where he also played in Europe.
Worrall’s played against teams ranging from Villarreal and Celtic to Wolves and Aston Villa.
We think he’s ready to make the step up to the Premier League and if he can be bought for £10million, it wouldn’t be a bad piece of business.
He’s likely to have resale value as a 24-year-old Englishman, which is a major plus-point if he doesn’t get the game-time he desires in the East End.
However, with West Ham’s centre-back options mostly on the wrong side of 30, a fresher pair of legs wouldn’t go amiss in certain matches.
