West Ham table offer to sign Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie
West Ham have made a bid to sign Juventus and USA midfielder Weston McKennie, according to TuttoSport.
The Italian news outlet reports on their website that “in the last few days”, Juve have received “interesting offers” from the Hammers, Aston Villa and Everton as they aim to sign the 22-year-old central midfielder.
It is understood that amid the bids for McKennie, Juventus are ramping up their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Alex Witsel.
Just what the doctor ordered
West Ham really need to add to their central midfield options before the transfer window closes and McKennie could be a great option for David Moyes to have in his squad.
Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek are the undisputed starters in that area but what happens if they get injured or suspended this season? We’ve also got the Europa League to contend with and a lot of these players are not used to play Premier League football at the weekend, in Europe on Thursday night, and then back to league football on the Sunday.
Mark Noble and Pablo Fornals can play in the middle too but Fornals, as shown in recent weeks, is better in a more attacking role and Noble isn’t a long-term solution as he’s retiring next summer.
McKennie is experienced at playing not only at an international level with the USA but also he’s used to playing in a top European league and in the Champions League.
Last season, the ex-Schalke midfielder made 46 appearances in all competitions for Juventus. He played in all but one of the Serie A club’s eight Champions League games and even scored in a group stage win over Barcelona.
The box-to-box midfielder [Bundesliga] would definitely be a worthy addition to Moyes’ squad but the Texas-born ace is attracting a lot of attention and could be tough to sign.
In other West Ham news, the Irons are in pursuit of signing this Erling Haaland-esque centre-forward.
