West Ham Super Fans react to crushing Jesse Lingard news

This is part of a regular series from our panel of West Ham Super Fans. Each week, our Super Fans will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around the London Stadium.

West Ham look as though they are likely to miss out on re-signing Jesse Lingard in the summer despite his successful loan spell in London this season.

Reliable Hammers insider ExWHUemployee dropped quite the bombshell earlier this week when he reported on Patreon that Lingard, 28, has held talks with Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and could be offered a new deal to stay at Old Trafford.

Ex admitted that “it will be hard for us to convince Manchester United to sell him” and “his most likely destination is to remain” in the North-West.

After such a sensational loan spell at the London Stadium, Ex’s update is a bitter pill to swallow but when we asked our panel of West Ham Super Fans, most of them were either optimistic about signing West Brom’s Matheus Pereira instead or admitted it was just good to have Lingard for the time they did.

Here is what they had to say:

Lingard scored nine goals and supplied five assists in his 16 appearances while on loan at West Ham, thrusting himself back into the England squad before unfairly missing out on Gareth Southgate’s squad for the European Championships.

Man United constantly overlooked the attacking midfielder and even though David Moyes brought the best out of him, the player’s decision to stay at Old Trafford is an odd one.

We wouldn’t be shocked to see him up for grabs again in January and maybe we could try to sign him again then.

In other West Ham news, an English striker wanted by the Irons is up for grabs for just £8million now.
