West Ham have made a deadline day bid for Fenerbahce defender Jayden Oosterwolde.

Graham Potter is looking to add more defensive stability to his squad as West Ham look to build momentum following their 3-0 win versus Nottingham Forest.

The Hammers sit 16th in the Premier League, and after conceding eight goals in their opening two matches, it isn't a shock that Potter wants to reinforce his defence.

Pressure has been eased on Potter following the emphatic win at the City Ground, yet there are still concerns over how the side will cope defensively throughout the season.

Fenerbahce reluctant to sell Jayden Oosterwolde to West Ham

Turkish journalist Resat Can Ozbudak has reported that West Ham have made a last-gasp offer for the Dutch centre-back.

He states, "West Ham United has made an offer for Jayden Oosterwolde! Fenerbahçe will not allow his sale unless an extraordinary offer is received."

Oosterwolde is a left-footed defender who joined the Turkish giants in January 2023 and is set to provide competition to Max Kilman.

The centre-back has had a career path different to most, having also gained experience in Italy and the Netherlands.

  • FC Twente (2020 - 2022)
  • Parma (2022 - 2023) - this included a loan spell at Parma in the second half of the 2021/22 season
  • Fenerbahce (2023 - now)

With Nayef Aguerd leaving West Ham, 24-year-old Oosterwolde represents a much more optimistic signing for West Ham fans.

Jayden Oosterwolde's injury record a potential worry for West Ham

Oosterwolde has had many struggles with keeping fit throughout the course of his career.

Last season, he suffered an ACL tear, which kept him out for the majority of the season, and he has missed multiple games in every season of his career.

  • 2020/21 - Six games missed
  • 2021/22 - Two games missed
  • 2022/23 - Five games missed
  • 2023/24 - Six games missed
  • 2024/25 - 43 games missed

Whilst Hammers fans should be excited about the prospect of his signing, they should also remain cautious when considering his history of availability.
