West Ham submit £30m bid for Ajax ace Edson Alvarez, player ready for medical – Fabrizio Romano

West Ham have submitted an offer that will be worth £30million for Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist tweeted on Saturday (5 August) to say a first bid has been launched by the Hammers.

He added that negotiations are continuing with Ajax, but Alvarez is ready to fly in for a medical at any time.

Romano had said on Friday (4 August) that personal terms have already been agreed with the 25-year-old Mexico midfielder.

Get it done

It has been the most frustrating of transfer windows for West Ham, who have had a seeming disconnect between manager David Moyes and new technical director Tim Steidten over transfer policy.

Of course, things were not helped by the delay in sorting out the sale of captain Declan Rice to Arsenal in a £105m deal, but since then the Hammers have kept hitting brick walls in terms of incomings.

A move for James Ward-Prowse remains in the balance, with a third bid having been rejected this week, while other targets such as Denis Zakaria have thus far yet to materialise.

But the transfer of Alvarez appears one that is very likely to get done and, at 25, he fits the age and profile West Ham should be searching for as they look to spend the money earned from the sale of Rice.

Hammers fans will be hoping once one player is in the door it will have a domino effect and others will follow. In short, get it done.
