Julen Lopetegui is in talks with David Sullivan over targets for West Ham United in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported via their website on 25 December that the Irons have set their sights on signing a new striker when the window opens next week.

However, the East London outfit need to raise funds through player sales before signing anyone to avoid breaching spending regulations.

Mohammed Kudus is subject of interest elsewhere, although he will only be sold for a "huge" fee.

Julen Lopetegui want new striker at West Ham

It has been evident for a while that West Ham need to bring in a new striker through the door, with all of their three centre-forwards already in their 30s.

Spluring £27million on a 31-year-old Niclas Fullkrug in the summer was questionable, especially with two aging strikers - Michail Antonio and Danny Ings - already at the London Stadium.

Antonio's unfortunate road traffic accident has only added to the woes, with Jarrod Bowen now leading the line for the Hammers.

Therefore, it is easy to see why Lopetegui is keen to add a centre-forward to his ranks in January.

West Ham have been linked with several strikers, including Brighton's Evan Ferguson and Mainz's Jonathan Burkardt [TBR Football].

However, it remains to be seen who they will sell to raise funds as they walk a financial tightrope.

Tim Steidten had over 100m to spend in the summer, but will have to work with a significantly smaller budget this time.
