West Ham set to sign Pierre Ekwah Elimby as journalist details ‘Significant’ clause
West Ham are set to sign Pierre Ekwah Elimby from Premier League rivals Chelsea for a seven-figure fee with a ‘significant’ sell-on clause attached.
That is according to Goal’s Chelsea correspondent Nizaar Kinsella who reported the news on his personal Twitter profile on Monday afternoon.
He wrote: “Chelsea youngster Pierre Ekwah is set to join West Ham after a successful trial spell at the London Stadium. The fee could reach £1.3million and Chelsea have a significant sell-on clause in the deal should West Ham move him on for a profit.
He also acknowledged David Moyes’ personal check on the 19-year-old after a trial with the east London club.
Sky Sports had earlier reported that the deal to sign the French starlet, signed from Nantes for £1.8million in 2018, would be officially announced on Wednesday, when the transfer window opens.
Moyes gets his man
Well if Moyes if a fan of the young midfielder then who are we to question the move?
The Scot has shown a great level of expertise in previous transfer windows, notably signing relatively unknown Czech duo Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal from Slavia Prague in 2020.
Elimby failed to make a senior appearance for our London rivals but that’s no surprise given their star-studded squad and penchant for buying big.
The French starlet is likely to be eased gently into the first-team fold, with more games in the Under-23s likely, but the seven-figure fee attached to the deal hints that the Irons have a lot of faith in him to go far.
The inclusion of a “significant” sell-on clause also shows that the Blues think there could be a lot more to come from the youngster, but they just can’t make room for him as he looks to make his mark on the senior stage.
We’re hopeful we can get a glimpse of Elimby in pre-season so we can gauge where he is at in his development, and whether he is likely to taste senior action next season.
