West Ham set to scrap bid to sign Chelsea centre-back Kurt Zouma
West Ham are set to end their bid to sign Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma due to the Frenchman’s excessive wage demands, according to The Sun.
The newspaper reports via their live transfer blog [August 16, 10:30pm] that Zouma, 26, wants a deal worth £120,000-a-week to join the Hammers even though his existing contract at Chelsea is worth £65,000-a-week.
It is understood that a deal to sign Zouma would cost a transfer fee of £20million but the centre-back’s wage demands “would blow apart” West Ham’s wage structure.

This is getting tiresome
David Moyes has shown what he can do with this West Ham squad.
The players were fantastic on Sunday as they came from behind to win 4-2 away at Newcastle and while we’re confident Moyes can drag this squad of players to a decent finish in the Premier League, we could do a lot better.
Why aim for a mid-table or top-half finish again? Why not aim to do what we did last season or, better still, improve on it?
As it stands, the squad is very thin with no new outfield players signed during the summer transfer window.
Moyes has a squad with more options in goals than he does in the centre of the midfield among his senior players.
We could really do with an extra player in almost every position but why has so much time been wasted on Zouma?
Did the club not find out what wages he wanted when all this started? Why has it taken until mid-August for them to find out and reject the notion of paying him that much?
This is really poor and really frustrating because we need a new centre-back and Zouma would have been superb.
In other West Ham news, the Irons are expected to table a bid for an international forward in the coming days.
