West Ham ready to make transfer decision after Max Kilman update
West Ham could walk away from talks to sign Wolves defender Max Kilman, according to the Guardian.
The newspaper reported online (28 June) that while sources have stressed a deal is not completely off, the Hammers are prepared to move on to other defensive targets.
Talks between the two clubs have not progressed with Wolves reluctant to budge on their £45million valuation of Kilman.
The Hammers do not want to pay more than £35million for the centre-back. As a result, they are monitoring Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori and Hull City’s Jacob Greaves as alternative targets.
Will West Ham United sign Max Kilman from Wolves?
Julen Lopetegui will no doubt be frustrated by these developments.
The new West Ham boss worked with Kilman while in charge at Wolves and is a big fan of the defender.
He is likely to be the main driving force behind this transfer pursuit, and if his new employers want to keep him happy, they should just pay the £45million that Wolves are demanding.
It seems quite clear that Gary O’Neil’s side will not accept anything less, and those at the London Stadium need to decide what is more important.
Unless they can agree on a deal for another defender who Lopetegui is just as happy with, it might just be worth paying the extra £10million.
It isn’t like this is an unnecessary signing either. The Hammers are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements and Lopetegui will want players through the door as soon as possible.

If the club walk away from negotiations, they seriously risk upsetting their new manager.
In other West Ham news, Kyle Walker-Peters has agreed to join the club.
