West Ham ready to make Edson Alvarez decision after Monaco approach
West Ham are set to reject an approach from Monaco to take Edson Alvarez on loan, according to Simon Jones.
Writing in the print version of The Daily Mail (9 January, page 69), Jones reported that Alvarez is a target for the Ligue 1 side but the Hammers are expected to reject an approach.
The midfielder has made 18 appearances in all competitions this term but has failed to have much positive impact with no goals, no assists and two sendings off.
Edson Alvarez set to remain at West Ham
Alvarez has not been good enough at West Ham this season and has proved to be underwhelming for a player who is experienced and should be performing at a higher level.
However, following the appointment of Graham Potter to replace Julen Lopetegui, this could be a chance for the 27-year-old to save his future at The London Stadium and step up.
There have been numerous players in East London who have struggled to perform this term and by sacking the Spanish manager, the board have put a large amount of this down to the manager.

Having spent so heavily in the last transfer window it remains to be seen how much the Hammers will spend in January to back incoming new boss Graham Potter and there will be an expectation to organically improve some members of the current squad.
Therefore, it makes sense not to let the midfielder go at this stage and instead, give him the chance to make it work under a new boss.
