West Ham ready to greenlight midfield exits to sign Liverpool’s Tyler Morton

West Ham are expected to inject some youth into their midfield core with the transfer of Liverpool gem Tyler Morton.

There has been intensive talk about transforming Graham Potter’s midfield this summer, with several exits on the cards at the London Stadium.

The likes of Tomas Soucek, Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse are all on the older side. As a result, the Hammers may have identified the perfect remedy with Morton.

West Ham to sell midfielders to facilitate Morton transfer

As reported by The Times on Tuesday (29 July), West Ham are interested in signing Morton this summer. However, the club are looking to sell some of their present midfield options first.

There has been a lot of speculation about which midfielders are poised to leave the London Stadium this summer.

In the case of Morton’s transfer, Alvarez and Guido Rodriguez are the obvious two choices. Both are defensive midfielders, and both have been linked with an exit.

With Morton also lining up as a defensive midfielder, the Hammers should have little choice but to sell one of the two this window.

Morton would be a good fit

The best teams have always found a balance between experience and youth to help carry them to silverware.

At 22 years of age, signing Morton would put the Hammers on the right track to achieving that balance.

While he is young, the Liverpool gem is wise beyond his years and has performed at senior level for the Reds. He is comfortable in possession and is best known for his ability to carry the ball as well as his impressive passing range.

Furthermore, Morton is also effective defensively and is an expert at blocking the ball and closing down passing lanes. Despite this, there will always be the question of whether he will be able to adapt.

While this is a legitimate concern, the youngster has already played under two managers for the first team and has performed for both. With experience in domestic competitions and the Premier League, Morton could be a good investment for West Ham this summer.
