West Ham United are interested in a transfer move for young Hibernian striker Josh Landers, according to the Daily Record.

The news outlet reports (6 January) that the Hammers are eyeing the 17-year-old as they look to examine him further after his recent senior breakthrough.

While the Irons have been impressed by the Scotsman, they want to have a closer look as he will spend the next few days training at Rush Green.

West Ham United could seal Josh Landers transfer

The East London club are going through a tough period at the moment, sitting way off hopes of challenging for a European spot in the Premier League table.

Julen Lopetegui is under immense pressure at the Hammers after failing to bring the best of the squad at his disposal.

The Spanish manager was unable to rely on Niclas Fullkrug in the first half of the season due to his fitness and can't call upon Michail Antonio after his car accident.

West Ham have struggled for a goalscorer in the current campaign, with Jarrod Bowen carrying the burden up front, until his recent issues.

The Irons are evidently in need of reinforcement in January, but it remains to be seen whether Tim Steidten will have the funds to pull something off.

Landers seems like an exciting prospect with a bright future, but he arguably won't be able to provide a short-term solution to the East London club's issues.

Nonetheless, the 17-year-old could become part of the young generation at Rush Green who are preparing for their opportunities in the first team.

It remains to be seen whether the youngster can impress the powers that be at the Hammers to sanction a move.
