West Ham ready last-min move to sign Evan Ferguson as ExWHUEmployee drops update
West Ham have named Evan Ferguson as their number one transfer target, according to ExWHUEmployee.
The Hammers have been linked with a move for the Republic of Ireland international throughout the January window but appear to have taken a step closer to completing a deal.
There is a prior link between the 20-year-old and Graham Potter who worked together at Brighton but the forward has struggled under Fabian Hurzeler at the Amex.
Despite this, the Irons have maintained their interest which has been reported by ExWHUEmployee on The West Ham Way podcast (28 January).
They said: “Evan Ferguson has emerged as the number one forward target for the club. The main concern, however, is that he hasn’t featured for Brighton for a few weeks now due to an injury and has missed their last seven games.
“The club are trying to decide whether it is worth signing him at this point with Potter saying he only wanted players who can ‘start immediately’ in the team. Potter of course gave Ferguson his debut for Brighton and knows the potential he has, so a decision will be made in the next few days as to whether we do go for him or for other targets.
“Other clubs are also said to be monitoring Ferguson’s position and fitness at Brighton. Part of the delay is also waiting for Brighton to finally sanction the move. We remain very interested.”
West Ham make Evan Ferguson number one target in January
It won’t come as a surprise to the London Stadium faithful that the new head coach is keen to add a new forward to his squad before the end of the winter window.
With the 3 February deadline fast approaching, Potter has to move quickly to complete any deal to bolster his side for the rest of the season.
As a result, it will come as a boost to the Hammers that the hierarchy appears to be pressing to bring the young forward in from the Seagulls in January.
Ferguson has struggled with injuries and form in recent weeks and months but that could be turned around under the influence of his former manager.

With the promise of regular minutes in the Premier League for a side that is striving to improve, the ex-Bohemians forward may be keen on a move to the capital.
It is fair to say that Potter will have a keen eye on any progress made in a deal to sign the Brighton striker in the coming days.
In other West Ham news, a £21m bid has been tabled for an Atletico Madrid star in January.
