West Ham ready formal bid for N’Golo Kanté amid wage update – Dharmesh Sheth

West Ham United are deciding whether or not to formally bid for Al-Ittihad midfielder N’Golo Kanté, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports journalist reported via X (19 July) that wages could prove to be a stumbling block in any attempts to bring Kanté to the London Stadium.

As first reported by Will Unwin via The Guardian (18 July), a deal for the midfielder would cost £20million.

Kanté has two years left on his deal with Al-Ittihad and started all six games at the 2024 UEFA European Championship for France.

West Ham United to bring N’Golo Kanté back to the Premier League?

When players head to Saudi Arabia, it tends to be toward the end of their careers as they seek one final very lucrative payday.

Plenty of supporters who hadn’t seen much of Kanté since he left English football might have assumed that his quality had declined.

However, the 33-year-old demonstrated during the Euros in Germany that is certainly not the case.

The midfielder looked back to his best as he was recalled to the France national team, with his performances reminding everybody of that special quality he showed first with Leicester City and then with Chelsea.

If he could bring that form back to the Premier League with him, then it would be of huge benefit to both the Hammers and Julen Lopetegui.

West Ham were all over the place defensively last season and adding Kanté to their midfield would bring some stability to the club.

This doesn’t look like an easy transfer to complete, but if the club can get it over the line, it could prove very worthwhile.
