West Ham ready approaches to sign Chelsea duo after £85m twist
West Ham United are “considering” bids to sign Carney Chukwuemeka and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea before 3 February, according to Ben Jacobs.
The GiveMeSport journalist posted on X (21 January) to report that having seen a £57million bid for Jhon Duran knocked back by Aston Villa – who want £85m for him – the Irons are monitoring other attackers.
Dewsbury-Hall and Chukwuemeka have both been considered as options to bolster Graham Potter’s midfield option, with Chelsea having several options when it comes to deciding Chukuwemeka’s future.
Jacobs said: “West Ham in for a busy close to the window as they search for attackers – £57m bid rejected for Jhon Duran, who Aston Villa don’t want to sell and value at £85m.
“Hammers also considering approaches for both Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Carney Chukwuemeka.
“Chelsea exploring multiple options for Chukwuemeka. With Caleb Wiley set to be recalled, a loan to Strasbourg is still not discounted.”
West Ham and Graham Potter set for crucial end to transfer window
With Duran, Dewsbury-Hall and Chukwuemeka all being completely different types of player – and just three of several on the Hammers’ radar this winter – it’s clear that plenty of work needs to be done.
Potter’s arrival in East London on 9 January has hardly moved the needle in terms of form at the London Stadium, with losses to Aston Villa and Crystal Palace either side of a close-run victory over Fulham.

The squad Potter has inherited at Rush Green is one which, despite having over £120m spent on it last summer, is woefully inequipped to be a serious competitor at Premier League level.
That certainly doesn’t paint technical director Tim Steidten in a good light, with none of his nine signings really excelling so far, and it’s no surprise to see Premier League-proven targets now being pursued.
Shelling out £85m for Duran looks unlikely given it would comfortably smash the Irons’ transfer record, setting up a higher possibility of Dewsbury-Hall and Chukwuemeka pitching up in claret and blue.
