West Ham on verge of first winter transfer ‘as player passes medical’ – Sky Sports

Evan Ferguson has completed a medical ahead of joining West Ham United on loan from Brighton, according to Sky Sports.

Dharmesh Sheth reported via the broadcaster’s live transfer blog [2 February, 6:38pm] that all the relevant checks have been successfully cleared, having started his medical earlier on Sunday (2 February).

West Ham are now set to cover Ferguson’s wages in full for the remainder of the campaign, as well as a one-off loan fee [Sky Sports].

West Ham on verge of first winter transfer signing

It may have taken right up until the final day of the window, assuming there is no confirmation prior to Monday (3 February), but the Irons have at least now all but got a deal over the line.

Signing a striker was always going to be important, and in Ferguson the Irons have landed someone who is capable of finding the net at this level.

The Republic of Ireland international looked like being a serious talent not so long ago, only for injuries to set him back at Brighton.

The hope now is that he can play consistently for United and regain his confidence, which will do both him and West Ham the world of good.

Supporters will hope this is not the end of the transfer activity, but there are just 24 hours or so to go before the window closes – and a game against Chelsea to focus on, too.

If this is the only signing of the window, it will be a tad underwhelming. But fingers crossed David Sullivan has a few more plates spinning behind the scenes.
