West Ham offer £14.4m plus bonuses for Nikola Milenkovic

West Ham have made a bid worth £14.4million plus bonuses for Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic, according to Alfredo Pedulla.

Writing via his personal website, the Gazzetta Dello Sport journalist reported that as a result of their bid, the Irons are pole position to sign the 23-year-old Serbia international, who’s also wanted by Tottenham.

It is understood that Fiorentina are close to re-signing centre-back Matija Nastasić from Schalke and that should grease the wheels for Milenkovic to move on.

Getting closer

We’ve all been frustrated by how this summer has panned out but it genuinely seems as though David Moyes is getting closer to the first new outfield addition of the summer.

Since the end of last season, Craig Dawson’s loan stay has been turned into a permanent one while goalkeeper Alphonse Areola was signed on a loan-to-buy basis from Paris Saint-Germain.

But we need way more than that to be competitive in the latter stages of the Europa League and try to challenge for domestic silverware.

Milenkovic is fairly young at the age of 23 but he’s played over 120 times in Serie A for Fiorentina and also won 28 caps for the Serbia national team.

West Ham’s defence performed well last season with David Moyes overseeing some major improvements to the players he already had at the London Stadium.

Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna have done really well for Moyes but you have to see Milenkovic as someone who could potentially be better than both of them, as well as Dawson, who struggled prior to his move to East London at West Brom and Watford.

We need to keep moving forward and signing Milenkovic suggests we may be going in the right direction.
