West Ham news: Major Jonathan David transfer twist emerges ahead of summer

West Ham United’s search for a striker concluded after Graham Potter was able to reunite with Brighton star Evan Ferguson.

With Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug both sidelined, and Danny Ings clearly making no headway at the London Stadium, a new forward signing was vital before the winter window slammed shut.

Ferguson, albeit has only started two Premier League games this season, has more than proved his worth in the top tier of English football and is ready to make an instant impact in East London.

Potter has been utilising Lucas Paqueta or Mohammed Kudus through the middle, rather than turning to one of the most experienced players in the squad, suggesting that the manager’s wishlist is only just beginning.

However, the Hammers could be about to be handed a significant blow in their search to sign a striker during the summer transfer window.

West Ham concerned over Jonathan David summer transfer

The Hammers and Tottenham are now concerned about their chances of signing Lille star Jonathan David on a free transfer this summer, sources have told GiveMeSport.

The online source reports [7 February] that the belief from the London Stadium is the 25-year-old could already be set to head elsewhere once his contract expires ahead of the next transfer window.

Graham Potter’s side were understood to be one of the teams offered the chance to sign the Canadian forward at the start of the winter window, but no move materialised.

With just six months left on his current deal, the Hammers are worried about missing on the player, who was dubbed “world-class” by former Canada international Iain Hume [X].

Graham Potter might need to sign Evan Ferguson permanently

Ferguson has yet to step foot onto the pitch in West Ham colours, but with an eight-day wait until the clash against Brentford, he has plenty of time to prepare.

Given the new player’s previous relationship with the manager, it would not be surprising to see him come straight into the lineup and make a good impression in front of the supporters.

If he can prove to be a significant player for the Hammers in the second half of the campaign, Potter could very much attempt to bring him to East London on a permanent basis in the summer.

With David now looking like less of an option, a 20-year-old goal-hungry forward from a fellow Premier League rival could be the ideal replacement.
