West Ham news: Huge Jonathan David development emerges

West Ham signed Evan Ferguson on loan in the January transfer window but want another striker in the summer, according to Graeme Bailey.

Hammers News reported on 8 February that a permanent move for the Republic of Ireland international does not seem to be on the cards.

Niclas Fullkrug has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League, Michail Antonio is a long-term injury absence and Danny Ings is set to leave in the summer.

Jonathan David fancies a move to Barcelona

Bailey told Hammers News that the Irons have a lot to offer with regards to pursuing the services of the Lille striker.

However, it is understood that Barcelona remain the dream club for the Canada international with 172 career goals.

Bailey said: “West Ham are one of many clubs to show an interest in David and they do have a lot to offer.

“Premier League football, living in London and one of best supported teams in England.

“They have the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus if he stays, Lucas Paqueta – to a forward that is mouth-watering.

“But with David, West Ham know they are fighting a battle. Almost every team is in for him.

“Barcelona are his dream club and once they show an interest – it is going to be hard to beat them.”

The 25-year-old will be a free agent as his contract at the French club runs out at the end of the season.

West Ham must attempt to sign Jonathan David this summer

David’s proven goal-scoring record in Ligue 1 and the Champions League could provide the much-needed firepower.

At 25, he’s at an optimal age, combining youth with experience, having scored regularly for Lille.

His versatility to play across the front line would add tactical flexibility, allowing the Hammers to adapt to different game scenarios.

Furthermore, David’s contract situation means he’ll be signed for free, making this a financially sensible investment.

His performances against top European clubs showcase his ability to perform under pressure, which could translate well in the Premier League.

It’s time for the club to take the next step under Graham Potter so signing him makes a lot of sense.
