‘West Ham need to sign John McGinn’ after what’s happened at Aston Villa
West Ham have been urged to sign John McGinn from Aston Villa.
McGinn emerged as a West Ham target in the summer but went on to sign a new contract with the Villans to remain as captain in B6.
The Irons went on to make multiple midfield signings instead, bringing in Mateus Fernandes from Southampton and Soungoutou Magassa from Monaco.
Magassa has struggled at West Ham in recent weeks, so the need for further reinforcement is still there for Nuno Espirito Santo.
There have now been fresh calls for McGinn to make a London Stadium switch after fresh developments at Aston Villa.
Ray Parlour wants John McGinn at West Ham
David Moyes wanted McGinn at West Ham during his tenure in charge, but the Scotland international has stuck around in the Midlands.
The 31-year-old has continued to perform at a top level under Unai Emery, proving exactly why he was offered fresh terms in claret and blue.
His impact was summed up on Saturday when McGinn netted a brace as Villa secured a 3-1 win against Nottingham Forest.
The Scot’s first double since 2019 inspired the Villans to three points, with his overall performance also being singled out for praise.
Arsenal legend Ray Parlour was blown away by the Villa skipper and told talkSPORT on Monday that he is exactly what West Ham need right now.
He said: “John McGinn again, another good performance from John. You know what you’re going to get from John every week. People must look at John McGinn and get a buzz because he always gives 100 per cent.
“He’s got quality as well, there’s no doubt about that, but the desire to play is fantastic. You need John McGinn at West Ham at the moment, he’d get people going there.”
What would McGinn add to West Ham?
There is no one like McGinn in this Hammers squad right now.
The ex-Hibernian man has the capability to play as a central midfielder, but has played more regularly off the flanks in Emery’s system.
Despite not being the sort of player the Spaniard has been known to utilise, the Scotland star has been an immovable object during his tenure.
His mix of true quality and unrivalled tenacity and physicality has seen him become a truly unique asset for Villa, while being the man to set the standards in claret and blue.

West Ham don’t have anyone who really fits into any of those characteristics, so his addition would make a massive difference in East London.
Although McGinn would never join the Irons based on the current standings.
