West Ham make shock offer to re-sign Marko Arnautovic in new twist – Sky Sports
West Ham United made an offer to sign Marko Arnautovic from Inter Milan in the recently concluded winter transfer window, according to Sky Sports in Italy, as relayed by Sports Witness.
The broadcasters reported via their website on 5 February that the Serie A giants had proposals to offload the Austria international, with the Irons checking the possibility of re-signing him.
Arnautovic, though, rejected the opportunity to rejoin the East London outfit, thus forcing Inter to postpone plans to strengthen their attack to the summer.
Marko Arnautovic would have been stop-gap signing for West Ham
The Hammers will not be too disappointed to have been rejected by Arnautovic, having signed Evan Ferguson on loan from Brighton.
However, given the Ireland international’s recent injury record, the 35-year-old would have been a good backup option as Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug recover from their injuries.
It is worth noting that the veteran was on West Ham’s books for two years between 2017 and 2019, when he bagged 22 goals and 12 assists in 65 appearances across all competitions.
The Premier League then sold the striker to Shanghai SIPG for £22.4million [Sky Sports].
Nevertheless, it appears a reunion is not on the cards, even though West Ham wanted one in the recently concluded winter transfer window.

Arnautovic has been plying his trade for Inter since making his season-long loan to Milan permanent last summer.
However, he is already in the final five months of his contract with the Serie A giants as he nears the end of his career anyway.
In other West Ham news, this Irons star is surely considering his options after a behind-the-scenes development.
