West Ham make Harvey Barnes decision amid transfer links

West Ham have no interest in signing Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes, according to Claret and Hugh.

It was reported by the Hammers news site online (17 July) that a source within the club has confirmed exclusively that Barnes is not a target, with bigger priorities currently lying elsewhere.

Claret and Huge reported they had been told by a source that West Ham have no interest in Barnes as his position on the left wing is not a desperate need and other areas of the team are a bigger priority.

West Ham and Newcastle had both been linked with a move for Barnes (Sky Sports News, 16 July) after the winger was relegated from the Premier League with Leicester last season, with his 13 goals not enough to keep the Foxes up.

Understandable

Despite Barnes’ obvious talent, it makes sense that David Moyes’ side would currently have bigger priorities.

The 25-year-old would be a brilliant signing and would likely be keen on the move after his current side’s relegation to the Championship, however, following the sale of Declan Rice, the club must prioritise signings elsewhere.

At least one new central midfielder is certainly needed to fill the massive hole that Rice left behind after he completed his switch to Arsenal. Defence is also an area where Moyes will be hoping to bring in reinforcements.

If the club are able to address these priority positions and still have transfer funds left over, who knows, they could return for Barnes. Although with Newcastle also sniffing around, it is likely the winger will get his Premier League move sooner rather than later.

It could eventually be a move the club live to regret not making but, as long as they bring in their bigger priorities, they will feel they made the necessary choice.

In other West Ham news, another potential target is set to make a final decision on his future.
