West Ham make contact to sign Gabriel Martinelli-esque attacker
West Ham are keen on bringing a player akin to Arsenal attacker Gabriel Martinelli to the London Stadium in the summer.
The Hammers are preparing for life under Graham Potter and are keen on giving him new players in the summer transfer window.
Despite spending quite a bit last summer, it’s understood that the hierarchy are open to transfers in the coming months.
West Ham have opened talks with the entourage of Antonio Cordero
TBR reported on 13 February that the Hammers have opened talks with the entourage of Malaga winger Antonio Cordero.
However, it’s understood that Newcastle are leading the chase to sign the 18-year-old wide man this summer.
Much like the Magpies, Arsenal, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Brighton and Nottingham Forest have also been in conversations with his camp along with La Liga giants Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
A move to the Premier League looks very likely for the young Spanish winger who’s certainly a player in demand.
Football Talent scout Jacek Kulig has even likened him to Arsenal’s Martinelli and Barcelona winger Ferran Torres.
Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have also shown an interest in signing the pacey Segunda division winger.
Antonio Cordero is unlikely to move to the London Stadium
The Hammers should abandon their pursuit of Cordero due to the intense competition for his signature.
With Newcastle close to finalising a deal, and other top-tier clubs also in the mix, the likelihood of securing the teenager’s services seems slim and they must thus focus on other options.
His impressive performances in LaLiga2, contributing four goals and six assists in 24 games, have not only caught the eye of numerous clubs but have also led to his selection for Spain’s Under-19 squad.
This level of interest from both domestic and international giants means that the Irons would likely need to offer an exceptionally competitive package to even enter the conversation, which might not align with their current transfer strategy or budget constraints.

Moreover, Cordero’s preference may be to sign for a club that could offer him European football and that’s not something he can get at the London Stadium so this one seems unlikely.
