West Ham make bids for Rangers winger Kai Kennedy, could loan him out to Dunfermline Athletic

West Ham could sign Rangers winger Kai Kennedy this summer and send him straight out on loan to Dunfermline Athletic, according to The Athletic.

Kennedy, 19, has been the subject of huge interest by the Irons in recent days, and The Athletic reported on Tuesday afternoon [20/07/21] that Scottish giants Rangers had “rejected bids” from the east London side.

The Scotland Under-19 international had been expected to join Scottish Championship side Dunfermline on loan from the Gers, but this move has been held up while his future remains “uncertain” in Glasgow.

However, the online news outlet claim that Dunfermline is “still a likely destination regardless of where his permanent future lies”, suggesting that West Ham are happy for him to make that move if he signs this summer.

Kennedy spent the second half of last season in the Scottish Championship, featuring for Raith Rovers.

Time to grow as a player

Standing at just five foot four inches, Kennedy would struggle to impose himself in the Premier League right away.

He could be thrust into the Under-23 side, but after gaining valuable senior experience last season, he may well feel that his time in the junior ranks has come to an end.

Kennedy spent time at two Scottish Championship sides last season, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Raith Rovers, and it was at the former that their manager John Robertson dubbed him a “crowd-pleaser” [Press and Journal] due to his mazy dribbling abilities that get fans on the edge of their seats.

That’s exactly what Kennedy would bring to the side – a penchant for taking his marker on at will.

He may not be considered a first-team prospect for the next year or two, but he certainly has the ability to break into the side at some point in the future.

Making multiple bids suggests that the Irons are desperate to bring him to east London, but it could prove a difficult deal to reach given the desperation of Rangers to keep hold of him.
