West Ham make approach to sign Manchester City star, but get offered different player instead
West Ham United are working hard to improve Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad and their latest search has taken them to Manchester City.
The Hammers are seven points adrift of safety in the Premier League and Nuno has a huge job on his hands to turn the situation around at the London Stadium.
West Ham have already made two signings in January, bringing in Taty Castellanos from Lazio and Pablo Felipe from Gil Vicente.
David Sullivan spent around £45million to acquire the two attackers, but now seems to have refocused his attention towards reducing the goals going in at the other end.
West Ham receive instant Man City response
According to ExWHUEmployee, West Ham have enquired about the possibility of signing James Trafford from Man City.
The 23-year-old moved back to the Etihad from Burnley over the summer, but has had limited game time since the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma.
However, City are still reluctant to release Trafford, meaning that the shot-stopper is unlikely to complete a move to the East London side in the January window.
The Citizens reportedly offered Stefan Ortega to West Ham in return, but it is unknown whether the Hammers are considering the German.
Ortega has dropped down the pecking order since Trafford and Donnarumma came in, and hasn’t made a matchday squad for City since the middle of August.
West Ham eye bumper January window
West Ham may have already spent £45m this month, but they are showing no signs of slowing down.
As well as enquiring about Trafford, the Hammers are targeting Metz midfielder Alpha Toure and Brentford defender Ethan Pinnock, among others.
West Ham are reportedly fully committed to signing Toure, but it remains to be seen whether they can strike a deal to bring him to the London Stadium.
As for Pinnock, he has five years of Premier League experience and could be keen on a move given he is down the pecking order at Brentford.
