West Ham make approach to beat Barcelona to brand new transfer

West Ham could be in line to complete a signing ahead of Barcelona as the summer transfer window looms at the London Stadium.

The Hammers have had a difficult season and will likely be keen on improving their squad before the new campaign kicks off in East London.

Graham Potter has failed to get a positive tune out of his side since taking over earlier in 2025, something which needs to change moving forward.

This could all kick start with a deal ahead of the summer to beat Barcelona to a signing despite their success in the Champions League.

West Ham and Barcelona want defender signing

It looks as if the Irons are going to have an issue at left-back moving into the new season if Emerson is to depart.

The Italy international has had a patchy year in E20 and has been linked with a move away, which could leave a gap on the flank.

Although many would like to see Ollie Scarles step up moving forward, there is no doubt that another experienced option would come in handy.

This could prove to be Junior Firpo who looks destined to depart Leeds United when his contract reaches it’s expiry date.

TBR Football reported on 6 May that West Ham have made contact with the 28-year-old’s representatives amid interest from Everton and Crystal Palace.

Barcelona have also shown an interest in a return for the Dominican Republic international who appear to be in need of options down the left flank.

Firpo could represent bargain for West Ham

There is no doubt that Leeds United fans have had an up-and-down relationship with the defender since his move from Camp Nou.

Firpo has been electric at Elland Road this season as Daniel Farke’s side earned promotion back to the Premier League by winning the Championship.

The former Real Betis man has excellent experience at the top level and also possesses excellent talent, particularly in forward areas.

This could suit Potter and his five-back system, especially with the likes of Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo behind him in defence.

It will be interesting to see if the Irons can pose a better destination for the defender than a return to Barcelona after a stellar season for the Blaugrana.
