West Ham make approach ‘in the last few hours’ to sign Saelemaekers amid AC Milan decision
West Ham United have made an approach to sign Alexis Saelemaekers from AC Milan, according to Calcio Mercato.
The Italian outlet reported on 18 July that the Hammers have asked the Serie A giants for information “in the last few hours”.
The Belgian international is not part of the “technical project” with the Rossoneri after a loan spell with Bologna last season.
There is interest from the Premier League outside of West Ham with Leicester City, Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town options for the 25-year-old.
West Ham approach Alexis Saelemaekers
The Irons are looking to add to their squad over the summer after the departure of David Moyes at the end of last campaign.
With Julen Lopetegui taking charge as head coach, the former Wolves boss will be looking to make a positive impact with new signings.
He has already begun this process by bringing Max Kilman through the London Stadium doors but is now turning his attention to attacking reinforcements.
Saelemaekers played a role in the success of Bologna in Serie A last year under Thiago Motta which saw them achieve Champions League qualification.

The Belgian is versatile enough to feature on either flank but prefers to play off the left-hand side which is a position that the Hammers do need to reinforce.
With Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus both preferring to feature off the right, or through the middle, the wantaway Milan star could be a useful signing.
In other West Ham news, the club face competition from Crystal Palace in their bid to sign an out-of-favour Arsenal winger.
