West Ham learn what it will take to sign Aleix Garcia amid fresh transfer approach

West Ham have just learned how they can seal the signing of Aleix Garcia before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Graham Potter will be desperate to strengthen his squad as much as possible in the coming days as he fights to keep his job over the next few weeks.

Garcia is a long-term target for West Ham, who also made an attempt to sign him last summer while he was at Girona.

Bayer Leverkusen beat them to the deal on that occasion, and the Bundesliga outfit have now left the Hammers in no doubt as to what it will take for them to conduct business this time around.

West Ham will need to pay £17.2m+ for Aleix Garcia as contact made

West Ham’s previous failure to land Garcia appears to have little to deter them in their admiration of the midfielder as a player.

He was a key cog in the Girona side that remarkably secured the club’s first-ever qualification for the Champions League in 2023/24, before he moved to the reigning Bundesliga champions.

Garcia started 17 league games for Xabi Alonso’s side last term, but could already be on his way out after just one season in Leverkusen colours.

West Ham are understood to have a “concrete interest” in Garcia, and are already in contact with the German side over a deal, according to Sky Sport Deutschland.

The East Londoners are yet to table an official offer for the 28-year-old, although figures have been verbally exchanged between the two parties.

Die Werkself aren’t open to doing business for anything less than £17.2million, which hands West Ham clear parameters to their pursuit of the Spanish star.

What has Aleix Garcia previously said about West Ham?

Garcia admitted that he opted against West Ham last summer due to his desire to play Champions League football, but it now seems as though a move to the London Stadium could be on the cards once again.

He confirmed last summer that the Irons were “the only ones” to table a concrete offer for him aside from Leverkusen, according to Diari Di Girona.

The former Manchester City man suggested that he paid careful consideration to the two proposals, which hints that the E20 outfit could potentially have a decent chance of securing his signature in the coming days.

It remains to be seen how they will react to Leverkusen’s stance, but there could be little standing in their way of completing a deal if they deem the asking price to be acceptable.
