West Ham launch talks to sign Mamady Diambou as £5.1m offer ready

West Ham United are in talks over signing Mamady Diambou from Red Bull Salzburg this summer.

Graham Potter is hopeful of strengthening his squad this summer after making only one signing in his first transfer window as the Irons’ head coach.

The midfield is expected to be an area that needs addressing, with Tomas Soucek, Lucas Paqueta and Guido Rodriguez facing uncertain futures at the London Stadium, and Carlos Soler set to depart at the end of his loan deal.

Therefore, Diambou has emerged as a serious transfer target for the East London outfit ahead of the summer transfer window.

West Ham ready £5.1million offer for Diambou

West Ham have been interested in Diambou for at least a year, having made an offer to sign him last summer.

While the transfer did not materialise at the time, with Salzburg then tying the 22-year-old down to a new deal, the Hammers have rekindled their interest in him.

West Ham have relaunched negotiations with Salzburg over signing Diambou, according to Africafoot.

The news outlet reported via their website on Tuesday (6 May) that Potter’s side are interested in signing the Mali international as they look to strengthen their midfield.

They are prepared to do ‘everything possible’ to acquire the defensive midfielder’s services after missing out on him last year.

Therefore, West Ham are ready to make a £5.1m offer to convince Salzburg to sell him this time.

Potter to recruit smart at London Stadium

Potter had a lot of joy as the Brighton manager between 2019 and 2022.

The Seagulls are known for their smart recruitment, and the English tactician certainly reaped the rewards for it during his time at the Amex Stadium.

He could now look to repeat the trick at the London Stadium by making shrewd signings under the supervision of his long-term ally Kyle Macaulay.

West Ham are also in need to spend their money wisely, as they face financial constraints after spending over £120m last summer.

That is why a bargain deal for Diambou makes sense for the Irons at this stage.
