West Ham know how much they must pay for Emmanuel Fernandez with talks underway

West Ham United are keeping tabs on a move for Emmanuel Fernandez at Rangers.

The Hammers have already signed Joel Veltman this summer to add to their backline.

He will add plenty of experience as Nuno Espirito Santo looks to earn immediate promotion back to the Premier League.

There is still a clear desire to add to the backline, even with the Dutchman's addition.

That has seen many different options linked with a move at this stage of the summer.

The Scottish giants haven't exactly had the greatest time of things in recent years.

They may have won 55 league titles in their time, but have gone five years without lifting the Scottish Premiership.

There is hope that Derek McInnes could change that record, but he won't want to lose his best players this summer.

Fernandez is certainly one of those, and that is reflected in his price tag.

German outlet Fussball Daten reported on Friday that Rangers want £21million to £25m for the Nigeria international.

Any fee in that range would represent a record sale at Ibrox.

West Ham are interested and have remained in talks with the centre-back's representatives this summer.

Bayer Leverkusen and Atalanta are also in the race to sign the defender, with the Bundesliga outfit said to be leading the race at this stage.

How Crystal Palace could force West Ham into Fernandez deal

The idea of paying upwards of £20m for the Rangers man may be seen as too much in East London.

The problem is that the window has just over a week remaining and Nuno still wants a new centre-back signing.

That desire had seen the Hammers strongly linked with a move to bring Axel Disasi back to the London Stadium.

The Frenchman now looks set to join Crystal Palace on loan, rather than an E20 return.

Nuno now has limited time to make a move happen and it's clear that work has already been done with Fernandez's representatives.

That could see the Irons push to sign the Nigerian for a sizable fee.
